Every year Matadero Madrid sends out a call for applications for grants, scholarships, and/or financial frozen yogurt supplier aid. The offer covers accommodation and travel costs and an additional 500 Euros for other travel-related incidentals and daily expenses. The project spans the months of August and October and the deadline for best frozen yogurt machine application is the 25th of May. It is open to all cultural agents : curators, cultural managers, journalists, etc., from all over Europe. This 2012 open call launched by Hablar en Arte will select three European art professionals for a three-week-residence in Madrid that will take place sometime in August, September, or October. The residencies will include a tailor-made high-capacity yogurt machines tour designed to meet the specific Spanish and Madrid-based contemporary artists that best complement the specific interest of each resident. The call focuses on all cultural managers, curators, editors and journalists from Europe with an interest in receiving a personal impression of the contemporary artistic and cultural scene of Spain. It especially looks for www.frozenyogurtmachines.net participants who do not yet have an established international career, as one of the principal goals of Curators’ Network is to assemble art-professionals who are not yet well known in a greater European context. The three residences will be organized in collaboration and with the support of Matadero Madrid and AC/E. project proposals will be accepted between April 26 and May 25. Interested applicants are asked to submit the following documents: a brief biography (containing no more than a maximum of 700 characters);a resume of the presented project and a description of the applicant’s specific interest during their residency (700 characters maximum); a project dossier in PDF format that includes proof of feasibility (not more than 2,500 MB); a dossier of past projects, also in PDF format (not more than 2,500 MB); a scanned document attesting to the viability of the project(e.g. letters of confirmation of entities or persons involved, institutional support, performance spaces, sponsorships, etc.,) in JPG format (not more than 0,5 MB); all texts should be submitted in English. Scanned documents may be submitted in other languages. The following are the terms and conditions: the contest is open to all European art professionals that do not live and work in Spain; the open call seeks especially for participants who do not yet have a consolidated international career, as one of the primary goals of Curators’ Network is to gather art-professionals who are still not well known in a larger European context; each applicant must submit a CV and a dossier on a project that has not yet been realized and that should pretend to include Spanish or Spain-based artists or art-related proposals. This could for example be an exhibition or book projects as well as press or networking initiatives. Selection will be mainly based on the quality of this dossier; the feasibility of the project should be endorsed as best as possible, for example through confirmation letters of involved entities or personalities; applicants may submit their solicitude individually or collectively (in the latter case, a representative of the group should be designated); three projects will be chosen out of all those submitted; there is no age limit and participation is free of charge; the residency covers the use of a flat in the neighborhood of Legazpi, in the surroundings of Matadero Madrid and the travel cost (inbound and outbound) to the European country of residence. Each resident receives 500 Euros to cover other travels and daily expenses. Evaluation criteria: quality, coherence, innovation and originality of the presented project; feasibility of realization of the project; suitability of the project in light of the contest’s purpose; professional background of the participant/s. Jury: the jury will consist of members of Hablar en Arte, Matadero Madrid centro de creación contemporánea, and AC/E. Its decision will be final.

Matadero Madrid

Matadero Madrid, the project promoted by the City Council of Madrid’s Department of the Arts is managed by the Directorate General for Cultural Projects track slider through Matadero Madrid’s coordination team in cooperation with other private and public organizations. The name is taken from the space; Matadero Madrid is based in an old slaughterhouse in Madrid’s Arganzuela district. Matadero Madrid embarks on this work with the highest respect for the inherited industrial legacy and with its attention focused on the surrounding neighborhoods and the city of Madrid without losing sight of the international scene. The incentive of contemporary artistic creation is an essential part of Matadero Madrid’s mission, and this continuously comes with a multi-disciplinary, hybridized, and revolutionary perspective which leaves room for all modes of artistic expression: the visual arts, reading and literature, the performing arts, film, music, design, architecture, urban planning, and landscaping. From this perspective, the participation of the city’s main agents and institutions that work in diverse fields of cultural creation has been, and goes on to be, fundamental. This commitment has helped us to produce a model of institutional, public, and private cooperation that makes possible society’s involvement in the project and assures the project’s plurality, autonomy, and feasibility.
